The Secret to Perfectly Conditioned Curls
Here’s something most people get wrong about curly hair: conditioner isn’t meant to be rinsed out completely.
When you rinse out all your conditioner, you’re taking away the hydration your curls need to stay soft, defined, and frizz-free. Curly hair is naturally drier, so it needs extra moisture — and water + conditioner is the perfect duo to lock it in.
Here’s the truth:
Water is your hair’s best friend.
The real magic happens when water and conditioner work together. Conditioner helps seal in that water, giving your curls the hydration they crave. If you skip this, your hair will always feel dry and thirsty.
So, how do you do it right?
🌸 Start with soaking-wet hair. Water is the foundation of moisture. Apply conditioner while your hair is dripping wet to help it penetrate. Picture you are squishing the conditioner and water together into the centre of each hair strand. Brush through with a gentle brush designed for brushing wet hair.
🌸 Use enough conditioner to coat every strand. Usually a quarter of what you would normally use. Focus on mid-lengths and ends.
🌸 Don’t rinse it out. It is up to you, finer hair you might rinse half to ¾ out or if you have normal hair you may just do a light rinse. Or you may not rinse at all if you are using the right conditioner for your hair type. If it’s fine or oily you won’t want any conditioner on your root area) Your hair should feel soft and slippery, not squeaky clean after the hydration.
🌸 Finish with a little extra water. Add some water back in ( cup your hands under the shower with your head upside down or do side to side ) and scrunch it through your curls — this helps your curls clump beautifully.
Conditioner isn’t about making your hair heavy — it’s about giving your curls the moisture they need to thrive. When you pair this with water and the right styling routine, your curls will stay hydrated, bouncy, and frizz-free for days.
